Reef Octopus Self Cleaning Systems allow you to have a much more efficient and hands off approach to dealing with your protein skimmer. As you might know, your skimmer works at its most efficient level when the inside walls of the skimmer neck are clean and free of the gunk that builds up continuously as the protein skimmer operates. When the neck is constricted with this gunk, the skimmer loses some of its ability to transport foam all the way to the collection cup.
The featured piece of the self cleaning system is the SRO Dual Blade Auto Neck Cleaning Device. Working in much the same way as a car’s windshield wiper does, this device uses a low RPM, high torque motor, squeegees, wiper mount, and lid with mounting clamps.
Simply plug the unit into any type of timer or aquarium controller and set it to turn on for a few minutes 4 to 6 times per day. This will ensure the neck walls of the skimmer remain free of gunk and crud, and reduce your skimmer cleaning duties to one good cleaning every couple of weeks.
Please note that this unit will add to the overall height of your skimmer. The height when using the CL110 will increase by 4″, while the height will increase by 4.75″ with all other models. Please check the models information closely to ensure you order the cleaner that is made for your skimmer.
